This destructive iridescent green colored wood boring insect can now be controlled and its spread slowed and many trees saved from its devastating effects.

This invasive insect (EAB) that is native to China attacks trees of the Fraxinus species or ash family of trees, specifically green and white ash, Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Fraxinus Americana.

Both male and female feed on the leaves of the ash tree in early to mid-summer mate and the female deposits her eggs into the bark layer of the ash tree. The eggs hatch and the larvae feed in the cambial layer of the tree quickly compromising the trees system of nutrient fluid transport systems to the point of strangulation. Death can occur as rapidly as within 1 year but normally occurs over several years depending upon the level of infestation.

Infested trees sometimes show a weakened limb or section where the borer has attacked the tree and damage has been done. A very charismatic D shaped exit hole can be observed where the new adult has emerged from the tree.

Basal bark application of Safari® Insecticide with PENTRA-BARK® Penetrating Surfactant System

A new easily applied treatment method has been developed and proven to be very effective in preventing the spread and protecting any size Ash tree from the attack of EAB.
Safari Insecticide a registered product of Valent USA Corporation

Safari Systemic Insecticide in combination with PENTRA-BARK Penetrating Surfactant system tank mixed together and then spray applied to the trunk of the tree from ground level up to 5 or 6 feet of tree trunk circumference to saturation runoff will prevent and control EAB. The combination systemically translocates into the tree’s canopy and controls the insects when they feed. This easy application has been tested and proven effective for EAB control by Michigan State University for 2 years and is now registered for use in many states.

Timing of Application:
Early May through late June

Use Rates:
12 oz. of Safari 20 SG Insecticide
3 oz. of PENTRA-BARK surfactant
